Agriculture
The Foundation of Peterborough County
Agriculture is a key economic driver and a point of pride for Peterborough County. Our farms produce a wide variety of high-quality goods, from traditional crops and livestock to organic and specialty products, reflecting the strength and diversity of this vital sector. With a growing focus on sustainability, local food systems, and agri-innovation, agriculture offers strong potential for growth and diversification.
Economic Development is committed to supporting this sector through creative programming designed to help farms thrive and adapt:
-
Kawartha Local Food Wholesale Project
Helping expand production and create new opportunities for wholesale marketing and purchasing of local food. -
Kawartha Choice Farm Fresh
Promoting farm gates, farmers’ markets, and local food initiatives to strengthen connections between producers and consumers. -
Community Farming & Agri-Tourism Development
Supporting community farming projects and encouraging agri-tourism as a revenue generator for active farms. From farm-to-table experiences and seasonal activities to on-site events and markets, agri-tourism connects people directly to the land and local food culture.
Peterborough County’s agricultural sector is not only the backbone of our economy—it’s a growing hub of innovation, sustainability, and community engagement.
