Municipal Government

Rooted in Tradition. Built for the Future.

The Corporation of the County of Peterborough is an upper-tier municipality located in east-central Ontario, we are located on the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory and in the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Nations, collectively known as the Williams Treaties First Nation. We respectfully acknowledge that the Williams Treaty First Nations are the stewards and caretakers of these lands and waters in perpetuity, and that they continue to maintain this responsibility to ensure their health and integrity for generations to come. We are home to two First Nation communities — Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation — whose cultural heritage enriches the region.

With a population of approximately 64,000 year-round residents and we expand with approximately 18,000 seasonal residents, the County spans over 4,100 square kilometres, encompassing some of Ontario’s most scenic and diverse landscapes — from rugged Canadian Shield in the north to fertile agricultural lands and rolling hills in the south.

Peterborough County represents eight dynamic lower-tier municipalities, each offering unique opportunities and quality of life — yet working together under a shared vision of growth, sustainability, and regional collaboration.

Our diversity makes Peterborough County adaptable and future-ready, attracting both traditional industries and emerging sectors. Businesses here benefit from supportive networks, access to post-secondary talent, and a regional culture that values innovation and community.
